Den synlige og usynlige by: Slagelse
2012 - 2014
Den synlige og usynlige by: Slagelse [The visible and invisible City: Slagelse] is a project about city identity made in collaboration with social designer Johanne Aarup Hansen.
During two years Johanne and I have been on different kinds of expeditions in Slagelse, a town with 30.000 citizens, an hour drive from Copenhagen. A large group of citizens have joined us. The small community allowed us to experiment with situated conversations, guided walks, alternative mapping workshops, and spatial sense memory exercises – all invaluable in the effort to understand the different life rhythms of the city.
The project startet from inspiration from Italo Calvino's famous book "The Visible Cities", that lead us to conversations about how to see and create links between the urban architectural appearance and the stories, memories and dreams of the city, its everyday mythology at a psycho-geographical level.
In 2014 we presented our portrait of the city in an exhibition in Røde tårn, an exhibition space run by Slagelse Art Council. The exhibition included three walks.
Involved institutions: Slagelse Art Council, Slagelse library and Slagelse archive.
Finacial support: The Danish Art Council and Slagelse municipality.
